Fulfilling the Promise Fulfilling the Promise

About Us

The California/Nevada Community Action Partnership State Association (Cal/Neva) represents the concerns of over four-million impoverished California and Nevada residents - children, the elderly, the unemployed, and the homeless.

Legislative Advocacy
In a volatile, ever-changing social services environment, we gain strength by joining together to advocate for the programs and services that benefit the people we serve. Cal/Neva provides advocacy at the state and federal levels for Community Action Agencies (CAAs) and other community-based organizations who share a common mission: to help move families and individuals out of poverty and toward self-sufficiency.

Member Services
Locally planned, operated, and designed to meet local needs, CAAs provide a range of strategies and services aimed at addressing the causes of poverty. For more than fifty years, Community Action has responded to changing circumstances and changing needs with flexibility, innovation, and cooperation.

Cal/Neva, in turn, supports our members by monitoring state and federal legislation, sponsoring regular meetings, providing training workshops, developing resources, and representing its members at hearings and meetings held with state legislative, regulatory, and administrative entities.

The Association also serves as a forum for sharing information and ideas and as a mechanism for developing resources that benefit member agencies.

Policy Support
An important aspect of Cal/Neva's efforts includes our advocacy on policies affecting low-income people in the areas of welfare reform and energy demand-side management. The Association also serves as liaison and coalition builder with allied statewide and national organizations.

Membership
In 2006 Cal/Neva celebrated its 30 years as a non-profit organization. Our membership includes most of the locally based Community Action agencies in California and Nevada. Community-based organizations that serve low-income people are welcomed as Associate members. Individuals and organizations that support and share Cal/Neva's mission and goals may join as Sustaining members.
